Statement from ICB Wayland Following Attacks in New Zealand
Official Statement from ICB Wayland regarding the terror attacks in New Zealand.
Assalam o Alaikum (Peace be upon you)
Today we woke up to learning about the horrific attack on mosques in New Zealand where almost 50 people were murdered at Friday prayers. We condemn this heinous act in the strongest possible way, and pray for the victims and their families. As we have stated before, places of worship, churches, synagogues, temples, mosques and others, are sanctuaries where people come together as peaceful communities, to connect with God.
We will, God willing, continue all our normal activities at the Center and will also increase security. I am happy to share the text from Wayland Police Chief Swanick, which he sent even before I could contact him to discuss the issue.
"Aijaz, I am saddened to learn of the attacks on the Mosques in New Zealand. The Wayland Police will do all that we can to increase safety for your members. Our officers will increase presence at the Islamic Center during today’s prayers and throughout the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. If there is anything we can do, please let me know. Chief Swanick”
We are encouraged by the continued support from Chief Swanick and other neighbors as well as local houses of worship, and thank them all.
